A relatively unknown club from Moldova stunned the world as they beat 13-time Champions League winners Real Madrid at home. Here are 10 things you need to know about the tiny club which pulled off the upset of the tournament.

1. Sheriff Tiraspol was founded in the year 1997 and was called Tiras Tiraspol

2. Sheriff Tiraspol comes from Transnistria, an unrecognised breakaway state which is not approved by Moldova 

3. Total population of Transnistria is a little over 5 lakh and is only recognised by 3 states which themselves are unrecognised 

4. After their debut in the Moldovan League in 1997, Sheriff Tiraspol won their maiden national title in 1998 

5. Sheriff has won a total of 37 local league titles in domestic competition 

6. Sheriff never qualified for the main draw of the Champions League till 2021

7. The name Sheriff comes from their title sponsor which operates industries in the breakaway state

8. The home stadium is in Tiraspol and has a capacity of accommodating just 12 thousand fans 

9. With 2700 to 1 odds of beating Real Madrid, Sheriff helped their home fans win big through betting 

10. The combined squad cost of Real Madrid was over 850 million Euros which is 64-times more than Sheriff's squad cost
