An integral cog in the wheel of mountain expeditioners, Sherpas help mountaineers scale the Himalayan summits of their dreams. One such man is Apa Sherpa, who now resides in the US but frequents his roots in Nepal every year to provide financial assistance to village schools and show children from the Sherpa minority group that they have options in life; all thanks to his Apa Sherpa Foundation that he setup in 2012. Sherpas were mostly yak herders and traders living deep within the Himalayas until Nepal opened its borders to foreigners in the 1950s, and the small tribe found employment as guides on Mount Everest, carrying climbing equipment and helping mountaineers.
