With over two billion monthly active users, WhatsApp is likely one of the world's most popular messaging apps. However, a tablet-specific application remains absent from its arsenal.

But, sources indicate that the Meta-owned messaging service is developing a tablet-specific application.

To access the messaging app on a tablet, WhatsApp users must use either the WhatsApp mobile app or WhatsApp Web.

While both of these methods allow users to access WhatsApp on a tablet, they are not without their limits. As it requires a web browser, WhatsApp Web on tablets is not as convenient as the company's mobile or desktop apps. Therefore, if a user unintentionally quits their web browser, WhatsApp will automatically close. Using WhatsApp's mobile app on a tablet is also not particularly comfortable because the app is not optimised for the larger screen size of a tablet.

Therefore, there is a need for a specialised programme that can fit on a screen that is larger than a smartphone but smaller than a desktop computer.

Earlier this year, WhatsApp's CEO stated in an interview that a dedicated iPad app has been in high demand for a long time, and that the business now had the necessary underlying technology.
