WhatsApp has launched a new Chat Lock feature globally in order to provide added privacy and security to users.

The feature enables users to select certain chats or conversations that they want to keep hidden from others and lock them with a passcode, fingerprint or face unlock option.

When enabled, the feature moves locked chat threads to a separate folder and hides notifications and message previews, while media files are not automatically saved to the phone's gallery.

Users may lock a chat by tapping the name of a person or group and selecting the lock option. To bring back these chats, slowly pull down on your inbox and enter the password or biometric.

The feature is available on WhatsApp for Android and iOS and requires the latest version of the app.
