The Google Pixel 8 series has been awarded the prestigious title of "Best Smartphone 2023" at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). The Google flagship surpassed a field of impressive competitors, including the iPhone 15 Pro series and the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, to secure this major win.
The accolade was announced during the Global Mobile Awards event at MWC, hosted by the GSMA. These awards highlight excellence in the mobile industry. The “Best Smartphone” award, in particular, considers performance, innovation, and overall leadership in the market.
The GSMA assesses devices released commercially between January 2023 and December 2023 with input from independent experts.
This win marks a first for Google, whose previous Pixel models have been shortlisted or recognized for specific features. Apple's iPhone models have won in recent years, while the Galaxy S21 Ultra took the title in 2021.
Google's Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President of Devices & Services, celebrated the Google Pixel 8 win on Twitter/X.
The Google Pixel 8 series has garnered praise for its Tensor G3 chip, refined Android experience, and exceptional camera capabilities. The phones offer impressive everyday performance and are expected to see significant sales growth for Google in 2023.
