Google has agreed to pay $8 million to settle allegations of using deceptive ads to promote the Pixel 4 smartphone, according to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. This comes amidst Google's increasing scrutiny for antitrust and consumer protection violations by both federal and state governments. Paxton's office claimed that Google hired radio announcers to give testimonials about the Pixel 4, despite not allowing them to use one of the phones. Paxton stated that the settlement holds Google accountable for lying to Texans for financial gain and that their statements must be true when advertising in Texas. Google responded by saying that it takes compliance with advertising laws seriously and is pleased to resolve the issue.
