You finally got inked! But now you need to take care of your tattoo so that you don't end up getting a skin infection. Tattoo aftercare can be confusing, especially if it's your first one. These instructions will help you take care of your new tattoo with absolute ease.
The first thing you need to get after getting inked is a bandage or a plastic wrap which should ideally stay for a few hours. The covering protects the open skin from bacteria, sunlight, and from rubbing against clothing.
After removing the bandage make sure you wash the tattoo with antimicrobial soap and apply a layer of antibacterial or vaseline ointment twice a day.
Gently wash your tattoo twice a day with soap and water and pat dry before reapplying the ointment. Repeat this process for 2 to 4 weeks. Avoid hot showers and wear sunscreen during the day so that your tattoo doesn't fade.
Proper aftercare in the first few weeks after getting a tattoo can help prevent infection and keep the tattoo looking vibrant for life.
