The Tanzania regional commissioner has announced the creation of a team dedicated to tracking down and detaining gay people. Dar es Salaam commissioner Paul Makonda said that he has received over 18,000 messages giving names of people involved in homosexual acts, and has begun naming and shaming individuals in the local press. Makonda vowed to move ahead with a plan to arrest gays and lesbians in the country. Homosexuality is illegal in Tanzania.
