In a setback to LGBT couples in the country, Taiwan has rejected same-sex marriages by voting in a referendum. The vote goes against a landmark May 2017 ruling in Taiwan, where the Court advocated making same-sex marriages legal within two years. Marriage licensing offices, however, will still be held in violation of the law if they refuse same-sex couples.
