They might not have been the favourites to win the T20 World Cup 2021, but against all odds, Australia beat New Zealand by 8 wickets in the final to clinch its maiden World T20 title.
Aaron Finch won a crucial toss and put New Zealand into bat. Skipper Kane Williamson led from the front with a gritty 85 and helped his side finish at 172/4. Chasing which, the Aussies lost Finch early but David Warner carried on with his good form and smashed 53. But it was Mitchell Marsh's unbeaten 50-ball-77 that helped Australia cross the finish line with 7 balls to spare. With that, the Kangaroos also pulled off the highest successful run chase in a T20 World Cup game.
The Aussies have now beaten the Kiwis in all 3 limited-overs ICC finals. They came out on top in the 2009 Champions Trophy, the 2015 ODI World Cup and now the 2021 World T20.
