Copenhagen (Denmark), Aug 18 (PTI) – Veer Ahlawat concluded the Danish Golf Championship at the Fureso Golf Klub in Denmark with a final round of 1-over 72, placing him tied for 34th on the DP World Tour.

Ahlawat's performance included three birdies and four bogeys in his final round. After a bogey on the second hole, he rallied with three birdies across four holes, positioning himself for a strong finish to the week. Unfortunately, subsequent bogeys on the 12th, 16th, and 17th holes kept him from securing his first top 20 finish of the season.

With scores of 73-68-70-72, Ahlawat achieved a cumulative score of one under par for the tournament. This result is expected to see him advance from the 139th to the 136th position in the Race to Dubai rankings. The top 113 players earn a Category 10 card, granting them the majority of starts for the following year.

In an exciting conclusion, Englishman Marco Penge maintained his composure to birdie the 18th and win the tournament by a single stroke. Rasmus Hojgaard, a local favorite, began the final round with a one-shot lead over Penge, but a mid-round falter starting from the seventh hole allowed Penge to overcome a four-shot deficit. Højgaard managed to sink an eagle on the 18th to temporarily tie the scores, but Penge's birdie putt secured his victory.

Penge concluded the event with an impressive 16 under par (64-68-69-67), while Hojgaard finished at 15 under par (66-64-70-69). The Englishman also set a course record in the first round, earning a $10,000 bonus from the sponsor, Nexo. With this title, Penge gains entry into all subsequent back-nine events, having needed only a top-four finish this week to dominate the closing swing rankings.

As the leading player on the closing swing rankings, Penge receives an additional $200,000 in prize money.
