Lyon (France), Aug 6 (AP) Liverpool has agreed to transfer homegrown midfielder Tyler Morton to French club Lyon for a fee potentially reaching up to 15 million euros ($17 million) as of Tuesday. The 22-year-old Morton has committed to a five-year contract with Lyon, which has disclosed an upfront payment of 10 million euros, with the possibility of an additional 5 million euros in bonuses. A product of Liverpool's youth system, which he joined at the tender age of 7, Morton made only five appearances last season for the Premier League champions. He made his first-team debut in 2021, followed by loan spells at Blackburn and Hull. Morton recently contributed to England's victory in the Under-21 European Championship last month. Liverpool has been quite active in the transfer market this summer, with its expenditure reaching approximately $342 million, following the acquisition of Hugo Ekitiké. Generating incoming transfer fees will aid the club in adhering to financial sustainability rules. Liverpool is set to receive a reported $87 million from Bayern Munich for winger Luis Díaz, while Jarell Quansah's transfer to Bayer Leverkusen will add $47 million to the club's funds. Initially facing relegation due to financial issues, Lyon successfully appealed the decision and will continue to compete in Ligue 1 for the upcoming season. (AP) UNG
