Tharun Mannepalli Upsets Lee to Reach Macau Open Quarters

Macau, Jul 31 (PTI) - In a thrilling upset at the Macau Open, India's Tharun Mannepalli took down top seed Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong to set up a quarterfinals clash, joining fellow Indian, Lakshya Sen, in the last eight. Tharun, world No. 47, showcased incredible resilience to outlast Lee, world No. 15, with scores of 19-21, 21-14, 22-20 in a marathon competition.

The 23-year-old who previously reached the quarterfinals at the German Open in February, now finds himself in his second Super 300 tournament quarters where he will take on world No. 87 Hu Zhe An from China. Later on, the prominent second-seeded men’s doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were set to face Japan's Kakeru Kumagai and Hiroki Nishi.
