Chennai, Aug 26 (PTI) Sarfaraz Khan's blistering innings of 111 helped Mumbai recover from a precarious position against Haryana in their All India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament match on Tuesday.

Mumbai faced early setbacks after choosing to bat first, finding themselves at 84 for four. India batter Sarfaraz took charge, slamming nine boundaries and five sixes during his swift 112-ball century, reviving the team's innings.

The right-hander, who previously scored 138 against TNCA XI in this tournament, reached his hundred in style with a six off his 99th delivery at the MRF Pachaiyappa's Ground.

Having made his Test debut against England in Rajkot last year, Sarfaraz has been absent from the Indian team post their Australia tour, and was overlooked for the England series.

Earlier, Mumbai had succumbed from a steady 69 for no loss to a worrying 84 for four, with wickets of openers Musheer Khan (30), Divyaansh Saxena (46), Pragnesh Kanpillewar (3), and Suryansh Shedge (1) falling in quick order.

Shams Mulani remained unbeaten on 50, while Tanush Kotian narrowly missed his landmark, falling for 48 as Mumbai reached 346 for nine at stumps.

In other matches, Ruturaj Gaikwad bounced back with a solid 133 off 144 deliveries, including 10 boundaries and four sixes, propelling Maharashtra to a total of 440 against Himachal Pradesh. Arshin Kulkarni contributed a vital 146 off 190 balls. Prince Thakur’s impressive 7/144 was a highlight for Himachal Pradesh.

For Chhattisgarh, Shashank Tiwary took 5/54, bowling out TNCA President's XI for 266, with their side starting strongly at 4/0 in response.

TNCA XI rebounded with vigor, as Chandrasekar DT claimed three wickets, leaving Bengal teetering at 58 for four, trailing by 145 runs. Bengal's Rahul Prasad took five wickets for 44 runs.
