Pune: India’s talented batters, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Prithvi Shaw, have been selected for Maharashtra's 17-member squad for the All India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, scheduled to take place in Chennai between August 18 and September 9.

Young Ankit Bawane has been appointed as the captain of the Maharashtra squad.

This tournament marks the first major opportunity for top-order batter Shaw, who transferred from Mumbai to Maharashtra ahead of the current cricket season.

At 25, Shaw is looking forward to revitalizing his career following a challenging previous season with Mumbai, where fitness and discipline issues led to his exclusion from the squad.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who previously played in warm-up matches between India A and the national team before the England Test series, is eager to showcase his talent as well.

It should be noted that both Gaikwad and wicketkeeper Saurabh Nawale are expected to depart after the first game since they are required to join the West Zone squad in Bengaluru for the Duleep Trophy. West Zone has a direct entry into the semi-finals, with their first game scheduled for September 4.

Squad: Ankit Bawane (c), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prithvi Shaw, Siddhesh Veer, Sachin Dhas, Arshin Kulkarni, Harshal Kate, Siddharth Mhatre, Saurabh Nawale (wk), Mandar Bhandari (wk), Ramakrishna Ghosh, Mukesh Choudhary, Pradeep Dadhe, Vicky Ostwal, Hitesh Walunj, Prashant Solanki, Rajvardhan Hangargekar.
