Brighton (England), Sep 1 (AP) Manchester City’s playmaker, Rayan Cherki, is set to be sidelined for approximately two months due to injury, according to manager Pep Guardiola. In his absence, Cherki has been replaced in the France squad by the prolific Liverpool striker, Hugo Ekitike, who is in impressive form.

Guardiola announced Cherki’s injury status at the same time France was confirming the midfielder's exclusion from the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Iceland due to a torn left quadricep.

Cherki, who transferred to City from Lyon during the offseason, sustained the injury in training earlier this week. Consequently, he was absent from the lineup in City’s 2-1 defeat at Brighton on Sunday.
