World number 5 Rafael Nadal defeated Russia's Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 to advance into the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in Melbourne.
20-time grand slam champion Nadal was clinical in his approach against Olympic runner-up Khachanov as he won the first two sets easily. However, the Spaniard had a minor setback in the third as he lost the set 3-6.
But 6th seeded Nadal did not give another chance to the Russian counterpart in the fourth set and broke Khachanov's serve early to win the set 6-1.
Notably, Nadal is in search of his 21st grand slam title in the absence of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, both of them have won 20 grand slams each.
