Olympic medallist PV Sindhu secured her semifinal spot in the Malaysia Masters Super 500 tournament with a hard-fought win over China’s Yi Man Zhang on Friday.
Seeded sixth in the tournament, Sindhu took 1 hour and 14 minutes to overcome Zhang 21-16, 13-21, 22-20.
Sindhu faces seventh seed and world number nine Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia in the semifinals on Saturday.
Meanwhile, in men’s singles, ace shuttler HS Prannoy defeated Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto in their quarterfinal tie 25-23, 18-21, 21-13 to book his semifinal berth against Indonesia’s Christian Adinata.
Adinata reached the final-4 after defeating India’s Kidambi Srikanth 21-16, 16-21, 11-21 in just 57 minutes in the quarterfinal.
