India stayed up late on August 27, a Sunday night, to watch golden boy Neeraj Chopra script history at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

And Chopra did not disappoint. After a foul in his second attempt, Chopra achieved a massive 88.17m throw to secure the pole position.

Following his victory, Chopra's first words for his country were of gratitude. He thanked fellow Indians for staying up late to watch him perform.

This is how India reacted to its Olympic star's major win:

Chopra, who now holds an Olympic as well as World title, was hailed by an X user as a generational talent and named the 25-year-old 'in the league of India's greatest sportspersons'.

Echoing similar thoughts, another social media user called Chopra a legend, lauding his achievements at the age of 25 and praised the athlete for being not just a great player but also a great human being.

Yet another termed Neeraj's winning throw 'an absolute missile'.

A sports presenter called him the poster boy of Indian sports and also gave a special mention to the other two Indians who finished 5th and 6th in javelin throw - Kishore Jena and DP Manu.
