Harmilan Bains clocked 2:03.75 to win a Silver medal in women's 800m in Asian Games 2023 on Wednesday.

It was a last leg dash that helped her overtake the Chinese athletes and cross the finish line in the second spot.

What made the medal even more special was the fact that it came exactly two decades after her mother had achieved the same feat.

Harmilan's mother, Madhuri Singh, had clinched silver in the same event in the 2002 Asian Games.

Meanwhile, Avinash Sable also clinched a historic silver in the men's 5000m, India's first medal in this event since the 1982 Asian Games.

Sable had also won gold in men's 3000m Steeplechase earlier in the Games.
