Australian Open: Simona Halep beats Kovinic, cruises into last 16

2-time Grand Slam Champion Simona Halep continued with her blazing performance as she powered in the last 16 at the Australian Open after beating Danka Kovinic on Saturday.

The 14th seeded Romanian cruised into the 2nd week of the Australian Open for the 5th consecutive year after defeating the Montenegrin player in straight sets of 6-2, 6-1.

Kovinic who was ranked 98th had an amazing run until she faced Halep. In her previous round, she ousted US Open Champion Emma Raducanu as she became her nation's first player to reach the third round of a Grand Slam singles event.

Halep will next face France's Alize Cornet on January 24th.
