Aus Open: Former US Open champion Sam Stosur bids farewell after crashing out

Australia's Samantha Stosur's singles Tennis journey in women's singles came to an end after she was ousted from her 20th and last Australian Open in the second round on Thursday.

37-year-old former US Open Champion who had last year announced that the home Grand Slam will be her final singles competition went down against 10th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-2, 6-2. The Russian player who was once her doubles partner will now take part in the 3rd round in Melbourne.

Stosur, however, will continue taking part in the doubles competition with her Chinese partner Zhang Shuai.   

Apart from her US Open title which she won in 2011, the Australian player who has enjoyed more success in doubles with 28 titles to her name so far, was the runner-up in the 2010 French Open as well. She never advanced beyond the 4th round at the Australian Open.
