Defending Champion at Asian Games...
Neeraj Chopra is the true master of his trade and will now look to end his season on a high!
Just like in every competition, Chopra with Javelin in his hand will again be India's best bet at Hangzhou 2022 where the Track and Field events will begin on September 29 and the Javelin final will happen on October 4th.
Chopra's journey to becoming India's javelin superstar gained momentum at Tokyo 2020, but it truly took off at the Asian Games 2018. Back then, at just 20 years old, he made history in Jakarta by clinching India's first-ever gold in javelin. Since then, his trajectory has been nothing short of spectacular.
Despite an injury-hit 2023, Chopra has had a fantastic year. The defending champion first secured the no. 1 ranking for the first time in May and then went on to win the historic gold at World Championship followed by a second-place finish in the Diamond League finale.
In Hangzhou, his primary rival will be Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, who secured the second position in the World Championships. Nadeem also finished second to Neeraj at the Jakarta Games in 2018. Chopra, whose personal best stands at 89.94m, will be striving once again to achieve the elusive 90-metre mark in this highly anticipated event.
