Asian Games 2023: Sumit Nagal and Ankita Raina enter quarterfinals, disappointment in women's doubles

Sumit Nagal continued his flawless run in Asian Games 2023 as he beat Kazakhstan’s Bebit Zhukayev 7-6, 6-4 in the men's singles round 3 match.

In her quest for another Asian Games medal, Ankita Raina beat Hong Kong’s Adithya Karunaratne 6-1, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals in women’s singles.

Sadly, Rutuja Bhosale bowed out of the women’s singles event after a 6-7(5), 2-6 loss to Alex Eala of the Philippines in the third round.

Ramkumar Ramanathan's campaign also ended as he lost to Japanese second-seed Yosuke Watanuki 5-7, 7-6(3), 5-7 in 2 hours 40 minutes in the third round.

Indian challenge in women's doubles also ended as Rutuja Bhosale and Karman Thandi and another pair of Ankita Raina and Prathana Thombare lost their respective round 2 matches.

In the final tennis match for India on day 3, the mixed doubles pair of Yuki Bhambri and Ankita Raina reached the pre-quarterfinals after blanking Pakistan's Aqeel Khan and Sarah Kha 6-0, 6-0.
