They say one should never celebrate too early, but it doesn't hold true for Neeraj Chopra.
As Neeraj sets his sights on Paris 2024, a distinctive pattern has been observed in the 25-year-old's post-throw reaction.
In the two most defining moments of his career, at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and the 2023 World Athletics Championships final, Chopra threw his javelin and then without waiting for it to land on the mark he broke out in celebrations, confident of his attempt.
And in both instances, Chopra's jubilance was not misplaced. In Tokyo 2020, in his second attempt Chopra's attempt landed at 87.58m, all but confirming his Olympic gold.
As the javelin travelled its path, Chopra turned towards the small audience and cheered loudly, celebrating his throw.
In Budapest 2023, once again in his second attempt, Neeraj threw the javelin to a massive 88.17m and without even sparing a glance at the spear, he smiled widely at the spectators and threw his arms in the air.
