In a recent development, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has lifted the suspension on the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), restoring full control to its president, Sanjay Singh.

Singh, known to be a close associate of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a BJP MP facing allegations of sexual harassment from women athletes, will now oversee the federation's operations.

This decision reverses an earlier directive from December 24, 2023, when the ministry had suspended the WFI and appointed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to establish an ad-hoc committee for managing the federation’s daily functions.

The ministry's action to reinstate WFI leadership comes after a thorough review by the Spot Verification Committee.

Based on their findings and the compliance steps the WFI has undertaken, coupled with a focus on advancing Indian sports and supporting athletes, the ministry decided to revoke the suspension.
