Hosur (Tamil Nadu), Aug 27 (PTI) - In an impressive display at the 12th leg of the Hero Women's Pro Golf Tour on Wednesday, amateur golfer Mannat Brar soared to the top of the leaderboard with a stunning performance at the Clover Greens. Playing in a competitive Rs. 15 lakh prize money event, Mannat achieved the only under-par round of the day by carding a 2-under 70.
After a tied eighth finish at the 11th leg last week at Prestige Golfshire, Mannat showcased her prowess on the course. She opened her round with a birdie but faced setbacks with bogeys on the fourth and sixth holes, which pushed her to 1-over. Undeterred, she made a remarkable comeback by firing four consecutive birdies from the ninth to the twelfth hole. Though the birdie streak ended with five straight pars, she experienced a slight setback with a bogey on the challenging Par-3 18th.
Kriti Chowhan, Jasmine Shekar, and Ananya Garg formed the chasing pack, each shooting even par 72 to sit two shots behind Mannat. Seeking her first WPG Tour win, Kriti birdied the second and third holes but relinquished those gains with bogeys on the seventh and eighth. She finished with 10 pars in succession.
Jasmine, a seasoned winner on the Tour, recorded an early birdie on the fifth and then made three successive birdies from the 11th to the 13th. However, bogeys at the eighth, ninth, 14th, and 16th resulted in an even par round. Ananya, aiming for her maiden professional title, balanced three birdies with three bogeys.
Amateur Aaradhya Shetty and professional Rhea Jha both carded 1-over 73 to tie for fifth place. Last week's runner-up, amateur Lavanya Gupta, who soon heads to college in the US, shared seventh position with amateurs Diya C Patil, Karishma Govind, and Ravjot K Dosanjh, along with Ananya Datar, each posting scores of 2-over 74.
Lavanya started strongly with birdies on the second and third holes but struggled to maintain momentum, ending with three birdies against five bogeys. Among notable names facing challenges were Ladies European Tour players Amandeep Drall and Seher Atwal, both tied for 12th with scores of 75. Sneha Singh (76) was placed 18th, while Ridhima Dilawari (77) and Rhea Purvi Saravanan (79) were tied for 19th and 23rd, respectively.
The 12th leg is one of the final tournaments leading up to the Women's Indian Open in October, where players will aim to secure their spots for the international event.
