Liverpool Prepares for Community Shield Clash with Crystal Palace

Liverpool, Aug 8 (AP) — Alexis Mac Allister will be part of Liverpool's squad for the Community Shield match against Crystal Palace this Sunday.

The Argentine midfielder, recently sidelined due to injury, missed a portion of Liverpool's preseason sessions. However, he recently returned to play, featuring in the friendlies against Yokohama F. Marinos and Atletico Madrid. This positive development has made him a contender for Sunday's game at Wembley, as coach Arne Slot confirmed.

“He was out for two months, or perhaps longer, as we didn't field him in the last four games of the season. He has been training with us since last week and has played 30 and 45 minutes in recent matches,” Slot explained on Friday. “While starting is an option, he won't be able to play for the full 90 minutes.”

The 26-year-old Mac Allister's last official match was on May 11 against Arsenal. He missed the Premier League champion's final two games of the season due to a complex series of issues, rather than a singular injury.

“It's challenging to pinpoint a specific problem,” Mac Allister expressed. “There are two or three different issues that have been troublesome for several months. Ultimately, we identified the solution and have been focusing extensively on building my strength in the gym.”

In other squad updates, Liverpool's defender Joe Gomez is set to miss the upcoming match due to a “minor” injury, according to coach Slot. (AP) DDV
