London, Sep 1 (PTI): England fast bowler Jamie Overton has announced that he will take an indefinite break from red-ball cricket, citing the difficulty in fully committing to all formats. The 31-year-old pacer, who has played just two Test matches, the latest being against India in a drawn series at The Oval, made his decision public on X.

"After a lot of consideration, I've decided to pause my red-ball cricket journey indefinitely," Overton explained. "Given the demands throughout the year, it's increasingly challenging to fully dedicate myself to every format at both a physical and mental level."

Moving forward, Overton will concentrate on white-ball cricket to maintain his highest performance levels for as long as possible. In his relatively young international career, which began in 2022, Overton has featured in six ODIs and 12 T20 Internationals.

He plays for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and recently represented London Spirit in 'The Hundred' tournament in England.

By stepping back from first-class cricket, Overton may be looking to clear his schedule to participate in T20 leagues around the world.
