With MS Dhoni seemingly close to retirement, former Pakistani captain Wasim Akram has picked the legendary captain's successor at the Chennai Super Kings.

Speculations are rife that Dhoni will call it quits at the end of this year's IPL, and Akram has chosen Ajinkya Rahane as the man who should replace MSD at the helm of the Super Kings.

While CSK unsuccessfully tried Ravindra Jadeja as captain last year, MSD returned as skipper before the end of a disastrous campaign that saw Chennai win only 4 out of their 14 games.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Akram said, "I think they won't get a better option than Rahane as he can become consistent and is a local player. We have seen that local players are more successful in franchise cricket."

Akram's comments about Rahane come at a time when the veteran Indian batter has exceeded all expectations with his performances for CSK this year. With a strike rate of 190, Rahane has already scored 224 runs in his 6 innings so far.
