Gujarat Titans took top spot in IPL 2023 as they beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets at Eden Gardens on Saturday.
Put to bat first, KKR lost opener N Jagadeesan (19) within 3 overs.Jason Roy's replacement Rahmanullah Gurbaz stood his ground at the other end and top scored for the Knight Riders with a 39-ball 81.
However, wickets at regular intervals restricted KKR from putting up a big total with the home side stuck at 156/6 at 17.3 overs.
Mohd Shami took 3 wickets, followed by Noor Ahmad and Joshua Little with 2 each.
It was Andre Russell's 19-ball 34 which steered his side to a respectable 179 in the end.
In reply, After losing opener Wriddhiman Saha (10) within the powerplay, his opening partner Shubman Gill (49) took the responsibility to get Gujarat going in the chase.
With skipper Hardik Pandya dismissed at just 26, it was Vijay Shankar & David Miller that took the chase into another gear.
Shankar's unbeaten 51 along with Miller's 18-ball 32 helped the defending champions take top spot in the table by chasing down 180 within 18 overs.
