Daniel Sams defended just nine runs in the last over as Mumbai Indians beat Gujarat Titans by 5 runs at the Brabourne Stadium on Friday. This was Mumbai's second win in 10 matches.
Gujarat was cruising towards the 178-run target, as Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha stitched together a 106-run opening stand. Gill scored 52 runs off 36 balls while Saha hit a 40-ball-55. But both fell in quick succession and Hardik Pandya's untimely runout turned the match on its head. With David Miller at one end, Gujarat fans were hoping for yet another last-over victory but it was not to be. Daniel Sams defended 9 runs in the last over and conceded only three runs.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan provided Mumbai a flying start as the duo put up a 74-run stand. Rohit Sharma found his mojo back with the bat and blasted 43 runs before he was dismissed by Rashid Khan. Kishan also ended his lean patch with a 29-ball 45. However, Gujarat's bowlers-led by Rashid Khan dried up the run-flow in the middle overs and took wickets at regular intervals. But Tim David's fiery 21-ball-44 in the slog overs ensured Mumbai reach a respectable 177-6.
