Gujarat Titans suffered a severe blow as Kane Williamson hurt his right knee while fielding against Chennai Super Kings in the opening game of IPL 2023.

The New Zealand cricketer who made his debut for Gujarat Titans on Friday had to walk off the field in the 13th over of the first innings of the game. He suffered the injury while attempting to take Ruturaj Gaikwad's catch on the deep-square leg boundary.

Titans later got B Sai Sudharsan as the substitute player and GT swapped them, bringing in Sudharsan as the impact player. The defending champions won the opener by 5 wickets.
