Chennai Super Kings climbed to the top of IPL 2023 points table after a convincing 49-run victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.

Put into bat, CSK batters ran riot as openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway started off with a 73-run stand in 7.3 overs after which Gaikwad departed for 35 runs.

Conway scored a fiery 56 before Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube took matters into their own hands.

As if Rahane's 29-ball-71 wasn't enough torture for KKR bowlers, Dube also struck a fiery fifty to take CSK to the highest-ever IPL total at the Eden Gardens, a mammoth 235/4.

Chasing which, the Knight Riders had a disastrous start and lost both their openers Sunil Narine and N Jagadeesan with just a run on the board.

Jason Roy, who injured himself while fielding, came in and finally, the scoreboard started to move.

He top-scored for KKR with a 26-ball-61.

Rinku Singh too tried his best with an unbeaten 33-ball-53 but failed to chase the massive target. While KKR succumbed to their 4th consecutive loss of the season, CSK took top spot courtesy of their 3rd straight victory.
