Kolkata’s top order crumbled once again as the team were struggling at 34-4 in the 6th over, thereafter Rinku Singh brought some hope for the side but he too lost his wicket after adding 35 in 28 balls. With Gujarat’s regular strikes, Kolkata were nowhere in the game. However, after Russell survived a scare in the 13th over, the game inadvertently inclined in Kolkata’s favour. Alzarri Joseph provided a twist in the end once again as he removed Russell in the last over, restricting KKR to 148/8. Mohd Shami, Yash Dayal and Rashid khan each got 2 wickets each.
Earlier, Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bat first. The team lost Shubhman Gill’s wicket early, but Hardik Pandya with his 67 in 49 helped Gujarat post 157 run target. He was supported by Wriddhiman Saha and David Miller who scored 25(25) and 27(26) respectively. In the latter overs, KKR rattled Gujarat’s lineup as they lost 7 wickets in the last 4 overs. While Tim Southee picked 3 for Kolkata, Andre Russell picked 4 wickets in the last over. He became the first bowler in IPL to pick four wickets in a spell of one over or fewer.
