Chennai, Aug 6 (PTI) India's young surfing talents, Harish Prakash and Tayin Arun, showcased their skills by advancing to the third round in the Under-18 boys' division at the Asian Surfing Championships, held here on Wednesday.
On the competition's third day, Tayin Arun impressed by scoring the highest among the Indian participants with 9.23 points, ensuring his progression to the third round. He trailed only behind Thailand’s Tinn Johnson, who scored 9.60 points.
Meanwhile, the 11-year-old Harish Prakash also delivered a commendable performance, securing his spot in the next round with a score of 7.97 points, just behind Malaysia's Lucas Santiago, who earned 10.57 points.
Another Indian contender, Prahlad Sriram, finished third in Heat 6 with a score of 4.94. He will now aim for redemption in Repechage round two.
However, it was China’s Shidong Wu with an impressive 17.34 points and Korea’s Kanoa Heejae with 13.10 points, who dominated the first round.
Looking ahead, the senior men’s and women’s categories will resume their thrilling competitions on Thursday.
