Chennai, Aug 5 (PTI): The Indian women surfers faced a challenging day during the first round of the Open category at the ASF Asian Surfing Championships on Tuesday. National champion Kamali Moorthy led the Indian contingent, achieving a score of 7.60, the highest by an Indian on the day. She was followed by Sugar Shanti, who managed to score 4.97 points, and Shrishti Selvam, who recorded 4.60 points. Unfortunately, none of these efforts were sufficient to proceed to the next round. Nonetheless, there remains hope as the Indian surfers will aim for a comeback in the repechage rounds scheduled for Wednesday. Japan's Anri Matsuno emerged as the standout performer, amassing an impressive 15.34 points to secure her place in the third round. The Under-18 girls’ section also saw the Indian participants struggling, with Saanvi Hegde managing 2.63 points and Aadya Singh scoring 1.40 points before exiting the competition.
