Coimbatore, Aug 14 (PTI) - The highly anticipated Indian Racing Festival (IRF) is all set to commence the new motorsport season at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore this Saturday. It is recognized as the country's premier motorsport event.

The two-day opening event will showcase a variety of racing categories including the franchise-based Indian Racing League (IRL), the FIA-certified Formula 4 Indian Championship (F4 Indian), and the 28th JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship’s FLGB4 category. This season, spanning five weekends, will take the action to multiple cities and select street circuits, ensuring that fans get a closer view of top-tier racing.

"Coimbatore has always been a cornerstone of Indian motorsport," remarked Akhilesh Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of Racing Promotions Pvt. Ltd., in a press release. "This year's Drivers Draft has significantly increased the level of competition, featuring a mix of seasoned international drivers and promising Indian racers who will challenge each other at every turn."

Reddy further emphasized, "What excites me the most is the depth of the ecosystem: race engineers, data analysts, pit crews, and technical staff - all working in harmony to provide fans with racing that is fast, precise, safe, and world-class."

This year's IRL grid was formed through the league's inaugural Drivers Draft held in Mumbai, culminating in a diverse group comprising international racers, emerging Indian talents, and female drivers, all competing on an equal platform. The league features Wolf Racing GB08 cars equipped with Aprilia RSV4 1.0 engines, capable of reaching speeds up to 290 km/h.

The F4 Indian Championship employs Mygale F4 Generation 2 chassis with Alpine engines, offering young drivers a pathway to earn FIA Super Licence points while competing on Indian soil. The FLGB4 category, powered by 1300cc Suzuki Swift engines, remains the country’s most enduring single-seater racing class and serves as a springboard for developing homegrown racing talent.
