After Virat Kohli scored his record-breaking 50th ODI hundred against New Zealand in the semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2023, former cricketers and Indian fans flooded the internet with heartfelt wishes for the King.
Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record of 49 ODI centuries in front of a packed Wankhede Stadium.
Virat scored his 2nd century of the ongoing World Cup, also breaking the record for the most runs in a single World Cup edition.
While Kohli bowed down before the Master Blaster after breaking his record, Sachin penned down a heartfelt congratulations to the King on social media platform 'X'.
Sachin wrote "The first time I met you in the Indian dressing room, you were pranked by other teammates into touching my feet. I couldn’t stop laughing that day. But soon, you touched my heart with your passion and skill. I am so happy that that young boy has grown into a ‘Virat’ player. I couldn’t be happier that an Indian broke my record. And to do it on the biggest stage - in the World Cup Semi-final - and at my home ground is the icing on the cake."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to X to write about Kohli's special achievement.
He wrote, "Today, @imVkohli has not just scored his 50th ODI century but has also exemplified the spirit of excellence and perseverance that defines the best of sportsmanship. This remarkable milestone is a testament to his enduring dedication and exceptional talent. I extend heartfelt congratulations to him. May he continue setting a benchmark for future generations."
