Shubman Gill might not have scored a hundred so far in the 2023 Cricket World Cup but the Indian opening batter was well and truly on course to what would have been his maiden World Cup hundred in the semifinal vs New Zealand.

However, his innings came to a halt after a 65-ball-78. With just 21 runs away from the milestone, Gill retired hurt as he cramped up because of the Mumbai heat.

Gill was on song and had already smashed 8 fours and 3 sixes in front of a packed Wankhede stadium, with his parents also in attendance.
