Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer, all departed without scoring in the chase of 200. While Kishan when chasing a wide one from Mitchell Starc, Rohit was completely outfoxed by Josh Hazlewood who trapped him in front. Shreyas Iyer then played a nothing shot, offering catching practice to David Warner at cover in the very same over.

With all three gone for a duck, India made a number of unwanted records as well.

It was the first time in ODIs for India that three of their top four batters were dismissed without scoring a run.

It was also the first time since 2004 that India lost both their openers for a duck in an ODI. The last time it had happened, India were playing Zimbabwe in Adelaide.

It was also the second time in a World Cup match that both Indian openers perished for naught. The first time it happened was way back in 1983, Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth both got out for 0 that day. It was the very day Kapil Dev scored that match-winning 175 against Zimbabwe at Tunbridge Wells.

India losing 3 wickets this early in the match also reminded a number of fans of what had happened in the 2019 World Cup semifinal against New Zealand, where India had lost their top 3 for just 5 runs on the board.
