Rohit Sharma needed 29 runs to become the captain with the most runs in a single edition of an ODI World Cup and it took the Hitman just 20 balls to claim the feat in the India vs Australia 2023 World Cup final.

Rohit broke New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson's record, who had scored 578 runs in the 2019 World Cup in 10 innings. However, Rohit took 1 knock more than the Kiwi skipper to achieve the milestone.

The next players on the top 5 list are Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene, Australia's Ricky Ponting and Aaron Finch.

Among Indian captains, It was Sourav Ganguly who held this record. He had scored 465 runs in the 2003 edition, a tally Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli failed to eclipse in the next four editions.
