Controversy erupted in Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka match in ICC Cricket World Cup game in Delhi on Monday as Angelo Mathews became the first batter in international cricket to be timed out.

The incoming batter is required to take strike within 2 minutes after the fall of a wicket in ODIs, a limit Mathews exceeded.

The timer went over 2 minutes and Mathews didn't face his first ball despite being at the crease as the strap of his helmet broke.

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed to the on-field umpire, who had to send Mathews back as per rules.
