In an exciting build-up to the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, set to take place from February 19 to March 9 in Pakistan and Dubai, former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has been named one of the four prestigious event ambassadors. Joining him are Sarfaraz Ahmed, captain of Pakistan's victorious 2017 Champions Trophy team, former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, and New Zealand's renowned fast bowler Tim Southee. These cricketing icons will contribute guest columns and attend matches, offering insights and sharing their experiences as the world's top eight teams compete for the coveted title. Dhawan expressed his excitement, emphasizing the thrill and passion inherent in the tournament. "To be an Ambassador for such a special event is an honour," he stated in an ICC release, highlighting his fond memories and the intense competition that defines the Champions Trophy. Dhawan's association with the tournament is notable. As India's highest run-scorer with 701 runs across two editions, and the only player to win two consecutive Golden Bats, his contributions to the Champions Trophy are unparalleled. His impressive record includes being named Player of the Tournament in 2013 and holding the record for most centuries in the competition. Sarfaraz Ahmed shared his joy at Pakistan hosting the event, recalling the pride of lifting the trophy in 2017. "Seeing my country host this significant event is a moment of great pride," he remarked, while India's matches will take place in Dubai. Southee and Watson expressed their enthusiasm, with Watson noting the high stakes and intense competition that fans can expect. "We’ll witness extraordinary cricket as the top teams battle for the iconic white jackets," he said, anticipating a thrilling three weeks of cricket. This Champions Trophy promises an exhilarating spectacle, uniting cricket fans globally with its blend of skill, determination, and national pride.
