Lionel Messi revealed that he would have retired from international football had he not won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Argentine playmaker talked to Argentina's TV Publica during his visit to Beijing in June, but the interview only aired only on July 11.

He has not ruled out playing in the 2026 World Cup either, saying that he's now enjoying every moment with the national team.

Messi also spoke about his new challenge, playing at Inter Miami and MLS, securing that his "mentality will not change" during his time in the United States.
