Football star Lionel Messi trained on Tuesday in Argentina's first formal practice and is expected to start against Paraguay in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The 36-year-old has not had much activity in the last month due to the scar from an old hamstring injury. His last proper game was in the 1-0 victory against Ecuador at the start of the qualifying rounds on September 7.
He subsequently did not play in the 3-0 victory against Bolivia and sat out five Inter Miami games, although he entered in the second half of Saturday's 1-0 loss to FC Cincinnati.
World Champions Argentina, along with Brazil lead the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup with six points. They will host Paraguay on Thursday at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires and will visit Peru five days later.
Coach Lionel Scaloni will give details about the status of his star on Wednesday.
