United States Women's national team (USWNT) legend Megan Rapinoe has announced her retirement at the end of the 2023 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) season.

"It's with a really deep sense of peace, gratitude and excitement that I want to share with you that this is going to be my last season, my last World Cup and my last NWSL season. Obviously, there will be more to come, further down the road, after hopefully we get done what we want to get done. I just want to say thank you to everybody, to you guys, to Zlatko (Andonovski), to US Soccer, to everyone I've played with, all of my coaches. I could never have imagined where this beautiful game would have taken me. I feel so honored to be able to have represented this country and this federation for so many years. It's truly been the greatest thing I've ever done, something I`m so grateful for." Rapinoe said in an interview.

Rapinoe, who will be playing her 4th FIFA Women's World Cup this year has won the quadrennial tournament with the Stars and Stripes twice before.

She also won the Golden Ball and Golden Boot award in USA's World Cup winning campaign back in 2019.

Rapinoe plays for OL Reign in the NWSL and has spent her entire club career over there. The club will also be hosting a special celebration for her on October 6.
