Liverpool's poor record at Naples continued as the Reds were beaten 4-1 by Napoli. It could have been much worse for Jurgen Klopp's men after an abject first half display that saw them trailing 0-3 at halftime. While Napoli scored moments after the second half began, Luis Diaz pulled one back for the visitors in the 49th minute.

5-time winners Barcelona announced their return to Europe's premier club competition with a 5-1 thrashing of Viktoria Plzen at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Meanwhile, German Champions Bayern Munich beat Inter Milan 2-0 at the San Siro with Leroy Sane opening the scoring in the 25th minute. The German winger then forced Danilo d'Ambrosio into an own goal in the 66th minute to seal the tie.

But the most entertaining tie of the day was the Atletico Madrid vs FC Porto match in the Spanish capital which was goalless till the 90th minute. Mario Hermoso & Antoine Griezmann's goals on either side of Mateus Uribe's penalty won Atletico the match with a 2-1 scoreline.
Tottenham Hotspur beat 10-man Marseille 2-0 at home with new signing Richarlison scoring a brace on his Champions League debut.
