Anthony Elanga came off the bench to help Manchester United play out a 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in Champions League's round of 16 match on Wednesday night.

The high octane clash at the packed Metropolitano Stadium started with an early goal from Atletico's Joao Felix which sent the home fans berserk.

In front of hostile Atletico fans, the English club's effort looked disjointed and lacked spark as United failed to make a single shot on target in the first half.

The home side continued their forward press play after the break but failed to find the back of the net on multiple occasions.

In desperate need of a goal, United manager Ralf Rangnick substituted Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford with Alex Tellas and Anthony Elanga.

And the latter caught Atletico's defenders napping and scored the equaliser with a solo run after a pinpoint pass from Bruno Fernandes.

Atletico Madrid's substitute Antoine Griezmann nearly grabbed a late winner for the hosts but his shot from inside the box hit the post.

Manchester United will host Atletico Madrid in the return leg on March 16 at Old Trafford Stadium.
