Manchester United's shocking exit from the UEFA Champions League 2023–24 season came after finishing bottom of Group A.

On matchday six, United played host to Bayern Munich and needed to defeat the German champions in addition to requiring a draw between FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray in order to advance. However, United's miserable campaign came to an end with a 1-0 loss to Bayern.

Dani Ceballos scores a winner for Real Madrid

Real Madrid had to come back from behind to maintain their perfect record in Europe, but their place in the UEFA Champions League was already guaranteed going into the last round of group matches as the winners of Group C. Dani Ceballos saved the day for Madrid, winning it in the final seconds after Alex Kral's late goal appeared to have ended Madrid's unbeaten run.

Napoli, RC Lens and Arsenal go though

Napoli still had to win to qualify, and they did so at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona after defeating Braga 2-0.

With a thrilling 2-1 victory, RC Lens defeated holders Sevilla to keep European football alive. After the scores were tied late in the game, Lens was under pressure from a Sergio Ramos-inspired Sevilla, who needed the victory to advance to the UEFA Europa League play-offs. However, following a tense overtime period, Lens emerged victorious as Angelo Fulgini's late goal secured their advancement to the Europa League.

As the Group B winners, Arsenal had already advanced to the round of 16, so this was a night of firsts for them as they drew 1-1 with PSV in Eindhoven. Gabriel put a powerful header past Walter Benitez to give Arsenal the best chance to win the match, but the Brazilian's late attempt was disallowed for offside.
